Philosophy

ANGELA'S PHILOSOPHY

A horse that understands his work and is responsive to the rider is a pleasure to ride.

I believe that it is important as a coach to create a friendly, positive and encouraging environment for the rider. My aim is always to make the sessions an enjoyable learning experience for horse and rider.

Judicious use of pole work, lungeing, work in hand and long reining is very much part of my training repertoire.

Building blocks

The building blocks of relaxation, rhythm, suppleness, straightness and throughness (i.e. without resistance) are the foundations for a harmonious relationship between horse and rider. Establishing this basic training is essential to producing light and responsive horses; it improves the feel for the rider, builds confidence within the partnership and provides a pathway for the realisation of goals and dreams. My job as a coach is to facilitate this journey, whilst keeping the safety and welfare of all concerned well in mind.

Progressive approach

I have trained many combinations over the years, from novice riders to Grand Prix, and young horses from just backed to Grand Prix. The key is to use a progressive, logical, gymnastic approach which allows the horse to develop the strength and understanding of how to use his body which, in turn, reduces injuries and prolongs an active working life. It is equally important that the rider learns to find a good balanced position for optimum results.
